Luna & Artemis

I've been looking at these two since I started this blog, thinking of blogging about them. They have a curious story attached.

In 1997 I went to Japan for the 1st time. Back then the Sailormoon anime series had just barely finished in Japan, I almost had already watched it whole and, needless to say, Sailormoon is one of my 3 favourite anime series. So, as I already was in Tokyo, I wanted to visit Asabu-Juban, the neighbourhood where Usagi and most of the characters lived and most of the action took place, and see how it was really like. Asabu-Juban is a fairly rich and central neighbourhood in Tokyo, very near Tokyo Bay and Tokyo Tower, two very memorable city landmarks. As Sailormoon was created in 1992, lots of landmarks that can be seen in the manga and anime were gone and everything seemed less busy and smaller. It's still a very nice neighbourhood, but not particularly pretty, as very few are in Tokyo.

As I was already going out for Tokyo Tower, I spotted this empty garage where there was an old man with a table, a few boxes with all sorts of trinkets and a sign saying ¥50 a piece. Spotting colourful stuff, I rummaged amongst all sorts of old stuff and toys, nothing particularly interesting, but... in the middle of all that small stuff there they were, Luna and Artemis smiling at me, like they were saying, "take us with you!" Of course I had to buy them, they were cute, they were Luna and Artemis, they looked vintage and they were bought in their own real neigbourhood!

I took the photo with them on my fingers because I suppose that's what they are, finger puppets, as they are hollow and the right size. They're official, they have all the right copyright markings, although I've never spotted them on Sailormoon toy listings, but maybe they're really early, from the 1st series, back from 92 or 93, when not much stuff was produced and many items, produced by smaller companies, are out of those official lists that cover more merchandise from Sailormoon R and up.

Anyway, I still like them a lot, they belong to my VIP prized toys list and that's why I'm introducing them here, before any other Sailormoon toys I own.

Luna & Artemis

Tenho andado a aolhar para estes dois desde que comecei este blog, a pensar que tinha de blogar acerca deles. Eles têm uma história engraçada.

Em 1997 fui pela primeira vez ao Japão. Nessa altura a série anime Sailormoon tinha acabado no Japão relativamente pouco tempo antes, eu já a tinha visto quase toda e, claro está, Sailormoon é uma das minhas 3 séries anime preferidas. Então, já que estava em Tóquio, queria visitar Asabu-Juban, o bairro onde Usagi e a maioria das personagens viviam e se passou grande parte da acção, e ver como era na verdade. Asabu-Juban é um bairro abastado e central de Tóquio, muito perto da Baía de Tóquio e da Tokyo Tower, dois marcos da cidade. Como a Sailormoon foi criada em 1992, alguns marcos carcteristicos que podem ver-se na manga e anime já não existem e tudo parecia menos agitado e mais pequeno. Ainda era um bairro muito agradável, mas não especialmente bonito, tal como poucos o são em Tóquio.

Quando já ia a sair do bairro para a Tokyo Tower, achei uma garagem vazia onde estava um velhote com uma mesa, algumas caixas cheias de tralha e um letreiro a dizer ¥50 a peça. Ao ver coisas coloridas, aventurei-me nas caixas cheias de tralha velha e brinquedos usados, nada particularmente interessante até que... no meio de todos aqueles pequenos objectos, ali estavam eles: a Luna e o Artemis a sorrir para mim, como se estivessem a dizer: "leva-nos contigo!". Claro que os tinha de comprar, eram giros, eram a Luna e o Artemis, pareciam antigos e foram comprados no seu próprio bairro!

Tirei a foto com eles nos meus dedos pois creio que é isso que eles são: marionetas de dedo, pois são ocos e têm o tamanho certo. São oficiais, têm todas as marcas de copyright certas, mas nunca os vi em listas de brinquedos de Sailormoon. Talvez sejam mesmo dos primeiros, do tempo da primeira série, de 92 ou 93, quando ainda não era produzida muita coisa e muitos artigos eram feitos por empresas menores e estão fora dessas listas que abrangem mais artigos da Sailormoon R em diante.

Gosto imenso deles na mesma, pertencem à minha lista VIP de brinquedos que adoro e é por isso que os estou a apresentar aqui, antes de qualquer outro brinquedo da Sailormoon que tenho.
