Yeah! Finally some sort of holidays! I've been so busy that even to blog about BlytheCon UK it takes its time. Actually I didn't want to blog before uploading some pictures of BCUK, and that takes time... 80+ photos (not all up on Flickr)!

It all started as I had some time at the previous day and went to check the venue before going to the "friday night pre-drinks" at a pub nearby. As I arrived I met my online friend Sam, which was a great joy. Later we went to the pub where I got another joy (besides meeting everyone - all those "virtual" friends and some more), the printed version of the BlytheCon UK 2012 postcard/invitation, illustrated and designed by me! I was drooling for some time, at least until I got some beer! Guiness, my favourite!

The next morning I happily crossed Kensington Park, greeted the crows and Prince Albert, yet still arrived at the venue before the doors opened. The hall was nice and airy, completely different from the labyrinthic space from last year. Right in front there were the photo competition and fashion competition tables, where I displayed Strawberry, wearing her "Scottish Queen" outfit. The stalls were displayed at the sides, on the left corner Lucy's knitting corner and Pen's World domination HQ, on the right corner some refreshments, delicious macaroons, water and soft drinks. In the middle were several round tables with chairs and on the back, before the stage, a huge table displaying the raffle prizes. The workshops were held on the stage itself.

After I made my first tour to the stalls, bought the stuff I previously wanted to buy and greeted everyone I already knew, I met my fellow Portuguese friends, who arrived a bit later than me. The rest of the day was filled with some workshops, going around having dollie talk at will, meeting new people, getting to know better some previous acquaintances.

As for the stalls there were some nice surprises, Poupée Mècanique, whose work I adore, had some kind of mishap and sold his work before delivering it. His stall was gorgeous as expected, with few but amazing pieces. Not exactly my style, but amazing anyway. Then there was These Shoes Are Not For Walking, I was WHOA! I've followed their work through Facebook for a long time, but I never imagined to see it live! I didn't buy anything (I'm a poor Blythe collector) but it was lovely to see it. And then there was Momolita. Still not my style, too lolita for my taste, but her work is a-ma-zing! So delicate and perfect! I talked to her a bit and she was sweet! I have a friend that loves her work, and I told her so. There were many other lovely stalls, as Polly's "Never Mind the Barbies" punk knitting and tartan collection (I was sorry none of my girls is punk...), the sold-outs Eurotrash and Bambina Carabina (Poupée Mècanique too), and so many others...

I bought: a dress at *jaszmade, a small hat/fascinator at some stall I forgot, a mask at Haunts Hold, some buckles at Mole Dolls. Later, we took the Goldie group shot and the general group shot (which almost made the Baden-Powell House people crazy) and then there were the results for the competitions, Strawberry and I won 3rd place in the Fashion Competition, and the raffle prizes were handed. I missed the person that won my hat, I'd like to know if she liked it.

Then we went to the after-party, at a bar a bit further from the venue (we had to take the bus), had some food and drinks there and chitchatted some more. As we say in Portugal, "we were few, but good ones" and it was a lot of fun!

Congratulations to Laura-Kate for organizing it so well, for being always in the best of moods and so nice and available to everyone. You did GREAT!

So, I hope to meet everyone again next year in Manchester, take my invitation, visit the website, we are open to suggestions and volunteers. The Northerners and the Portuguese will be glad to meet you there!

 

BlytheCon UK 2011

Aaah! Finalmente uma espécie de férias! Tenho andado tão ocupada que até para blogar acerca da BlytheCon UK está difícil. Bom, não queria blogar antes de colocar algumas fotos da BCUK, e isso demora... mais de 80 (não estão todas no Flickr)!

Tudo comoeçou quando tive algum tempo livre na véspera e fui ver como era o local do evento antes de ir para "os copos de sexta-feira à noite" num pub por perto. Quando lá cheguei encontrei a minha amiga da net Sam, que foi uma grande alegria. Mais tarde fomos juntas para o pub onde tive outra grande alegria (para além de encontrar toda a gente - todos os amigos "virtuais" e mais outros), a versão impressa do postal/convite para a BlytheCon UK 2012, criado e ilustrado por mim! Babei-me toda, pelo menos até beber uma cerveja! Guiness, a minha preferida!

Na manhã seguinte atravessei contente o Parque de Kensington, cumprimentei os corvos e o Prince Albert, e ainda cheguei antes de abrirem as portas. O salão era muito agradável e arejado, completamente diferente do espaço labiríntico do ano passado. Mesmo em frente estavam as mesas dos concursos de fotografia e moda, onde coloquei a Strawberry, com o seu fato "Scottish Queen". As bancas estavam dispostas de lado, à esquerda o cantinho de tricot da Lucy e o QG da Conquista do M undo da Pen, no canto direito uns acepipes, macarons deliciosos, água e refrigerantes. Ao centro havia várias mesas redondas com cadeiras e ao fundo, à frente do palco, uma mesa gigantesca com os prémios da rifa. Os workshops foram dados no próprio palco.

Depois de dar a primeira volta pelas bancas, ter comprado as coisas que já tinha decidido comprar e ter cumprimentado toda a gente, encontrei as minhas amigas portuguesas, que chegaram um pouco mais tarde que eu. O resto do dia foi preenchido com alguns workshops, a andar por lá a conversar sobre bonecas à vontade, a conhecer novas pessoas, a aprofundar o conhecimento das mpessoas que já conhecia.

Nas bancas houve uma supresas simpáticas, Poupée Mècanique, cujo trabalho adoro, teve um tipo de contratempo e vendeu a sua colecção antes sequer de a entregar. A banca dele era fantástica como esperado, com poucas peças mas deslumbrantes. Não são propriamente o meu estilo, mas deslumbrantes na mesma. Depois havia o These Shoes Are Not For Walking, fiquei UAU! Tenho seguido o seu trabalho através do Facebook há muito tempo, mas nunca imaginei vê-lo ao vivo! Não comprei nada (sou uma coleccionadora de Blythes pobre) mas foi incrível vê-lo. Havia também a Momolita. Mais uma vez não é o meu estilo, demasiado lolita para o meu gosto, mas o trabalho dela é in-crí-vel! Tão delicado e perfeitinho! Falei um pouco com ela que foi amorosa! Tenho uma amiga que adora o trabalho dela e disse-lho. Havia muitas moutras bancas deliciosas, como a colecção "Never Mind the Barbies" da Polly, tricots e tartans punk (tive pena de nenhuma das minhas moças ser punk...), as imadiatamente esgotadas Eurotrash e Bambina Carabina (o Poupée Mècanique também), e tantas outras...

Comprei um vestido na *jaszmade, um chapelinho/fascinator numa banca que já não me lembro, uma máscara na Haunts Hold, fivelas na Mole Dolls. Mais tarde tirámos a foto do grupo das Goldies e e grande foto de grupo (que quase levou as pessoas da Casa Baden-Powell à loucura) e depois foram os resultados das competições, eu e a Strawberry vencemos o 3º prémio no Concurso de Moda, e foram distribuídos os prémios da rifa. Não consegui contactar com quem ganhou o meu chapéu, gostaria de saber se gostou.

Depois formos para a after-party, num bar um pouco mais longe que o evento (tivémos de ir de autocarro), comemos e bebemos e tagarelámos um pouco mais. Como dizemos em Portugal, "éramos poucos mas bons" e foi muito divertido!

Os meus parabéns à Laura-Kate pela maravilhosa organização, por estar sempre com excelente humor e por ser tão simpática e disponível para toda a gente. Foste FANTÁSTICA!
